Now more than ever, the world is paying attention to the importance of marketing professionals across various industries. In the Philippines, more brands are looking for people to relay their relevance to their market. In other words, more companies are offering marketing jobs "” and, you should definitely take a shot at your dream job as soon as you can.

But while the demand for marketing professionals is rising, the competition is also stiff. So, how will you stand out among the thousands of jobseekers who want the same job as you? The key is in good marketing: Create a resume that sells.

In this article, you will learn how to create a marketing resume that will make hirers notice you. Read on to learn more.

Career summary/objective

In a marketing professional's resume, the career objective is crucial. After all, this is your first chance to grab a hirer's attention. So, make sure to immediately engage the hirer from the start.

A good career objective is clear and direct. You tell it as it is: Who are you and what makes you qualified? What do you want and why should they want you back?

Additionally, you want your career objective to be tailored to the job you are applying for. Resist the urge to type in general descriptions; rather, look at the job description and match your experience and qualifications for as briefly as much as possible.

Example:

Driven and dynamic marketing manager with five years of experience in sales and marketing. Seeking to leverage leadership abilities and project management skills at [name of company]. Previously managed the social media marketing function of [name of company], which now brings in 70% of the company's revenue.

Key skills

In most job postings, companies explicitly say what they are looking for. So, utilize the keywords you find in the job description to directly get your point across: You know what they need and you have what they need.

Not sure which skills you have? Below is a list of marketing-specific skills to get you started:

  • Sales
  • Verbal communication
  • Negotiation
  • Email marketing
  • SEO and SEM
  • PPC and CPC
  • Social media management
  • Writing and editing
  • Storytelling
  • Data analysis
  • Design skills
  • Project management
  • Collaboration

There are several skills you can add to your marketing resume. Opt to highlight only the ones that are most suitable for the job you are applying for. Note that these identified skills need not be marketing-specific; some companies have a particular workplace culture, and if you see yourself fit, then highlight your relevant soft skills, as well.

If you have other skills you want to sell, know that there is always the option to incorporate other skills throughout your resume. On that note, see to it that the other sections of your resume (i.e. Work Experience, Education) prove your skills and abilities. If these skills are quantifiable, best be specific with them.

Example:

  • Proficient in email and social media marketing (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube)
