MATERIALS ENGINEER
The Materials Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all concrete and asphalt materials produced and supplied meet the required project specifications, standards, and quality criteria. This role involves designing and approving Job Mix Formulas (JMF), implementing and monitoring Quality Control Plans (QCP), supervising laboratory and field testing, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, DPWH, or local regulations).
Candidates must have experience working in the construction industry.
⚙️ Key Responsibilities:
1. Mix Design and Job Mix Formula (JMF)
Develop, evaluate, and approve concrete and asphalt mix designs based on project specifications.
Conduct trial mixes and optimize proportions of aggregates, cement/asphalt, water, and admixtures to achieve target strength and performance.
Prepare and maintain Job Mix Formula (JMF) documentation, including test data, material sources, and laboratory results.
Ensure that all mix designs are approved by relevant authorities or consultants before production.
2. Quality Control and Testing
Implement and monitor the Quality Control Plan (QCP) for batching plant operations.
Supervise sampling and testing of raw materials (aggregates, cement, bitumen, admixtures, water) and finished products (concrete, asphalt).
Verify that testing procedures follow standard methods (ASTM, AASHTO, DPWH, BS, etc.).
Maintain calibration of laboratory and batching plant equipment.
Monitor plant production to ensure compliance with JMF and project specifications.
3. Material Evaluation and Source Approval
Inspect and evaluate aggregate sources and suppliers to ensure compliance with material specifications.
Coordinate with suppliers for delivery of approved materials and maintain traceability of material batches.
Review material certificates, test reports, and ensure that approved sources are used consistently.
4. Documentation and Reporting
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality control reports.
Maintain accurate records of test results, calibration certificates, and mix approvals.
Prepare non-conformance reports (NCR) and recommend corrective actions when materials fail to meet specifications.
Submit material test results and approvals to project consultants or clients for verification.
5. Coordination and Supervision
Coordinate with production, QA/QC, and site teams to ensure quality materials are supplied and used.
Supervise laboratory technicians, batching plant operators, and quality control inspectors.
Provide technical guidance to the production team on adjustments needed in batching operations based on test results or environmental conditions.
6. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
Ensure laboratory and plant operations comply with safety and environmental standards.
Implement proper waste management and pollution control measures in batching operations.
📋 Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
Licensed Engineer (preferred, depending on jurisdiction).
At least 3–5 years of experience in materials testing, mix design, and quality control of ready-mix concrete and asphalt.
Strong knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, DPWH, or equivalent standards.
Proficient in laboratory testing procedures and data interpretation.
Excellent communication and reporting skills.
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) licence as a Professional Engineer is required.
