Job Summary
The Patient Financial Specialist is responsible for supporting comprehensive patient financial management through financial screening, assistance program coordination and revenue cycle support. Operating within a Global Business Services environment, this role partners with U.S.-based healthcare teams to improve patient access to care, optimize financial outcomes and ensure compliant financial assistance processes.
What you’ll do
• Evaluate patients for financial assistance eligibility and coordinate enrollment in Patient Assistance Programs and copay assistance programs
• Manage drug procurement and recovery processes for indigent and underinsured patient populations, ensuring accurate and timely submission of all recovery accounts
• Coordinate closely with patients, hospital departments, providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers or foundations to support drug recovery and financial assistance workflows
• Monitor insurance payments for infusion services and identify opportunities for additional copay or foundation support
• Submit, track and reconcile claims with copay assistance programs and charitable foundations to ensure appropriate reimbursement
• Maintain accurate and timely patient financial assistance records in designated systems, ensuring documentation meets audit and compliance requirements
• Communicate payment discrepancies, program updates and financial assistance status to internal stakeholders
• Support patients and internal teams by responding to questions related to financial assistance programs and billing outcomes
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements and privacy standards
• Safeguard protected health information in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines

What you’ll need
Experience
• At least 1 year of experience in healthcare billing, financial services or revenue cycle operations required
• Experience in patient financial assistance programs, pharmacy services, social work or healthcare billing preferred
• Experience working with Epic or similar electronic health record systems preferred
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or a related field required
• High school diploma or General Educational Development credential preferred
Certifications
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) – Pharmacy Technician Certification Board preferred
• Financial advocacy or patient assistance certifications preferred
Skills and knowledge
• Knowledge of patient financial assistance programs, infusion billing and revenue cycle processes
• Strong analytical, documentation and attention to detail skills
• Effective communication and collaboration skills across clinical, financial and administrative teams
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare support environment
