Research and Development Officer

The Research and Development (R&D) Officer supports product innovation and technology transfer activities, including product profile and taste replication, raw material and supplier development, and store procedure standardization. This role also assists in monitoring food and packaging costs, coordinating quality control activities for franchised brand incubation, and maintaining proper documentation of product standards, quality requirements, and regulatory compliance.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

New Product Development

• Support the creation and development of concepts, formulations, and prototypes for new products
• Ensure product readiness and completeness of requirements for internal review and approval
• Conduct product replication and validation tests with internal teams and partner organizations
• Evaluate the compatibility of existing equipment, packaging, and product parameters
• Conduct product cook-outs and trials to support product validation
• Assist in setting up specifications for raw materials used in both traded goods and internal production
• Support the development and implementation of manufacturing and in-store product standards
• Assist in product certification activities to ensure consistency and quality in stores
• Manage standardization requirements for raw materials and packaging
• Support product costing and gross margin target achievement
• Organize product testing to ensure taste superiority and quality (sensory, nutritional, microbiological, and physicochemical tests)

Packaging, Product, and Process Improvement

• Participate in regular market and competitor product checks
• Develop alternative and more sustainable raw material options
• Support product improvement initiatives to enhance quality, customer acceptance, process efficiency, and cost effectiveness through product trials
• Analyze data and provide recommendations on trials, equipment (store and manufacturing), and production processes

Regulatory Compliance and Technical Documentation

• Coordinate with procurement teams, suppliers, and business partners to complete regulatory requirements
• Create and maintain accurate documentation for formulations, manufacturing processes, packaging, products, and raw material standards
• Maintain updated menu listings for new, improved, and modified products
• Track and document revision histories for all product changes
• Coordinate with document management teams for the submission and controlled distribution of product specification sheets and technical documents

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a bachelor’s degree in BS Food Technology or any related field.
  • Professional Food Technologist license is an advantage but not a requirement.
• Must have at least 2 years of extensive hands-on experience performing Research and Development OR Quality Assurance function from a reputable food company and directly involved in manufacturing and/or product development.
• Must have at least basic knowledge of culinary concepts (ingredients, preparation, taste profiling, etc.)?
• Must be amenable to be assigned in Ortigas, Pasig on a hybrid working arrangement (4 days onsite, 1 day work-from-home per week.)
