PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATION OF TEACHERS (Job Description)
To actively support the mission, values and beliefs of the school, it's curriculum, goals and policies:
- To be an active learner, taking part in professional development offered by the school and applying the learning into the classroom environment.
- To proactively build supportive relationships with other members of the school community, including colleagues, parents etc.
- To actively support whole school development through curricular, co-curricular and extra- curricular involvement.
- To actively support, collaborate and contribute to the teaching teams activities and meetings, both within the IB programs and across the IB programs.
- In order to promote a full understanding of the curriculum to look for opportunities to grow an understanding of the PYP/MYP curriculum across the years i.e. vertical curriculum.
- To carry out any reasonable general administrative tasks, not covered in this description, as requested by the Head of School or Programme Coordinator.
- To actively act as a positive role model and ambassador for the school in the community.
- To be committed to the safeguarding of children.
- To help formulate, implement and support any policies decided on by the partnership of Board of Trustees, Head of School, staff and parent community.
Responsibilities specific to teaching and learning:
- To ensure that the curriculum provided in the classroom is approached in such a way that meets the requirements of the IB PYP.
- To display a wide variety of teaching strategies using latest research to ensure that the learning environment is inclusive and meets the needs of all students in the class.
- To provide a broad education through a balanced curriculum covering all Key Learning Areas and skills with high levels of competence in all strands of the Beacon School’s Curriculum.
- To encourage the highest standards of achievement, through programmes which enable students to realize their full potential as individuals, and to develop the values needed to become good citizens.
- To achieve excellence through the establishment of clear learning outcomes, monitoring student performance against those outcomes, and providing programmes that meet individual needs.
- To develop Personalized Learning Plans (PLP).
- To provide equality of educational opportunity, by identifying and removing barriers to learning and achievement.
- To regularly assess student achievement, maintain individual records and report on student progress.
- To regularly evaluate one’s own teaching methods and approaches in order to maximize the development of knowledge, understanding and skills needed to compete successfully in the modern ever - changing world.
- To provide a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment for all students.
- To actively participate in the corporate life of the school through attendance at faculty meetings, regular communication with parents, and supporting colleagues and administration.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of BS Education related courses
- Preferably Licensed Professional Teachers
- With 3 or more years of teaching experience in an International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP and or MYP Program
- Master’s degree holder a plus

ACCREDITATION AND AUTHORIZATION
The Beacon School is accredited by the Department of Education (DepEd) and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). It is the first educational institution in the Philippines to receive authorization by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the Middle Years Programme (IB–MYP, Grades 6 – 8). With the authorization of its Primary Year Programme (IB–PYP, K – Grade 5) in 2005 and now its IB–MYP Programme in 2007, the Beacon School has the distinction of being the first and only fully IBO authorized educational institution in the Philippines for every level of its academic
programmes. The Beacon School is an IBO World School.

Grades 6 – 8: IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)
