very good place to work and enhance professional networks, and gain experience in project management
The good thingsRewarding career choice (purpose-driven) since you can support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate action, peacebuilding, and poverty reduction in the Philippines, a collaborative environment (friendly colleagues willing to help), and high-quality benefits
The challengesProject hurdles: internal processes are highly bureaucratic, which can delay project implementation. The requirement to remain politically neutral can be challenging for staff, particularly during changing political climates

The UN Way of Working with its Filipino Counterpart
The good thingsThe privilege of working in an international agency under the United Nation exposed me to working with people of different cultures. It has honed my people skills, my writing skills and communication skills as well.
The challengesThere are challenges, especially since the UN Way is quite different from the Filipino way of doing things. One is output-based (especially in a project) and is time-bound with set deadlines, while the Philippine agencies are bound by processes and procedures that need to be followed. Most of the time, the urgency takes a back seat to procedural protocol.
