The good thingsAccounting, Logistics, Sales, Marketing, Admin and HR all work in the same floor so you get a good idea how the company runs. They work with all appliance store dealers nationwide (ex. SM, Abenson) so it may be good experience for some.
The challengesSince this is a China company, the upper management are all Chinese. Some of them are not fluent in English. Only a limited number are regular positions, the rest are contractual. COE and Exit clearance is always delayed for a lot of people.

    Intern-Human Resources

TCL Sun Inc. is a good training ground for all outgoing trainees.
The good thingsFor me, the strong point of the company is I having a principle of “concerns are their commitment”, especially in the HRA department of the company. Because, when employees have personal concerns or related issue about the company or their co-workers, HR people are always ready to listen and remain understanding. They analyze carefully the situation then suggest what is good to resolve the problem. They are the employee’s voice. Moreover, employees of TCL are people oriented as they know how to collaborate, work and respect each other even if they are from the different departments. They are rich with seminars and trainings related to their job for their further improvement and development. Overall, the goodness of the training program I had received was a satisfaction because, I’ve been exposed to the different functions of Human Resources, not just in recruitment, compensation and benefits, staffing, etc. but most importantly the exposure to know some of the individuals from the different departments which developed my communication skills. This would be a great advantage for me in building opportunities and connections in the future, especially when relating it to the employee-employer relationship since I experienced meeting real corporate people.
The challengesSmall working place. As an Intern, I ‘am not only doing the task I’ve been assigned to do but I also observe the workplace condition of the company. Based from my observations, the main weak points of the company I experience are the following. (1) There are only two HR officers and one HR head that managing hundreds of employees, this lead to having tons of workloads for the HR employees and Not having enough space for the Human Resources related documents which also result to unorganized office workplace. (2) Hostile Relationship in the Accounting Department results to resigning of employees. The reasons and suggested solutions from the mentioned weak points above are the following: (1) Though I know that the office branch is small, and the HR office space for officers are only applicable for accommodating two HR staffs, and one small room for the Assistant HRA Manager of the office I think that is not fair to have unjustifiable small workplace for HR staffs in TCL because, considering the fact that HR manages hundreds of files of the internal and external employees of the company, it is not good to work in cube-like workplace and considering too that it is called “Department”. I think that TCL should allocate funds to expand the office so that, HR Department will have a better workplace and enough spaces for the related documents they are keeping. In addition to this, if working environment of HR would continue like this, in my aspect they will not last in the company and won’t be productive. Because, without the strengths of the HR department, organizations would suffer; HR can help you understand some of the challenges your company will need to overcome together. (2) The Head of the Finance/Accounting Department is way too bossy most of the times, and somedays are not, in millennials term, she’s bipolar and everyone in the HRA Department thinks that she’s the reason why employees in that area are resigning. My suggested solutions for this, though we all know in the real corporate world, we cannot avoid bosses like this, I suggest for employees to take this as a challenge in order for them to grow. Also, there will be times that collaboration between HR and Finance will be in pressure too, due to understanding of the financial data. In order to address such problems, there should be cooperation between the two departments, because when HR & finance cooperate, companies are efficient, productive, & will be profitable enough.

The good thingsThe versatility of the roles and also the exposure within the industry. The employees here are very open to new ideas. Performance bonuses are based not only on your performance but also on your contribution.
The challengesThe salary structure needs a few restructuring based on industry standards. Benefits can be more competitive, compared to other industries.
