"A diamond is a chunk of coal that did really well under pressure" - Henry KissingerThe good thingsIn my two years in this firm, the immense wealth of career growth and development (in terms of technical/soft skills) opportunities that the firm offers is the main cornerstone of working in this company.
There are many different career paths one could take within the firm; mainly, Taxation, Audit, and Advisory. Each one has sub paths to choose from and a little bit of Google search would provide you with a rough idea on what it takes to thrive on each path.
The firm provides a lot of in-house training for both soft skills and technical skills. However, there are moments where you have to balance time spent for working and for trainings. You will work a lot and you will learn a lot. But in the end, it will be worth it.
The working environment is good to say the least. People you meet are friendly and approachable. But a word of caution is advised, first impressions matter a lot. Choose your friends carefully in the workplace as they make your stay in the firm a bit better in the midst of the pressure.
As for the management, they can be very demanding (but no unreasonable demands) of their employees but also show care at the same time. Be open with your questions and concerns with them and they will respond.
Lastly, benefits and perks are present. (i. e. Medical & Clothing Allowance, Employee Insurance, bonuses, company outings/events/parties) Personally, I do enjoy the last part. It is the little things that count.
The challengesWork/life balance is poor. On busy days, you will not have the luxury of maintaining a work/life balance in the sense of maintaining a life outside of work. Load management is completely unbalanced. There are days where you work almost non-stop while only having time to sleep or eat; on the bright side, there are also days where there is little work to be done (a.k.a slack days).
Compensation is fairly low for the amount of work that you do. But in my opinion, this is counteracted by the main point I made above.
To end this lengthy review, if you can perform well under pressure, endure a poor work/life balance, and sacrifice a bit on earning money; then, working for this company will be a great start in your career. Essentially, it is a long term investment.
