    Good exposure to a multicultural working environment
    The good thingsYou get opportunities of presenting your work in front of Filipinos and foreigners. You will really be working closely with people of different nationalities so you will learn to adjust to varying temperaments and develop communication skillls - imagine talking to people of different accents! Benefits were good and the facilities are very good. Lots of events besides work. The working environment is relaxed but there are high expectations of you. There are regular employee performance assessments where you will be rated and given apt compensation if you meet or exceed expectations.
    The challengesIt's not the same in each department or research division; the people in each department determines the mentality/culture and career growth may be stagnant for years for others. Salary for beginners, especially researcher positions, may not be as competitive compared to other companies/institutes.

    The good thingsIRRI is a very nice place to work. If you're a nature-lover you'll definitely work here forever. The multi-cultured environment is a plus because you get to learn from the brightest minds in the world.
    The challengesThe IT services are extremely inefficient. They don't provide you with the necessary laptop and softwares you need in your work. Our secretary requested laptop and installation of ArcGIS last January 2014, and now it's already July 2015 and they will tell you the process is still ongoing.

    If your into science work for IRRI
    The good thingsThe ambiance, being surrounded by fields and nature without the noise of traffic or air pollution. Excellent food at subsidized prices (cheap) you could choose local or international cuisine. Shuttle service, when I was working there my transportation cost was Php 0. Hardware, software and office supply was not a problem you just have to request them and it will be provided. Good people.
    The challengesNothing really the work was easy and there are always people willing to help if you run into trouble. I just wish I could have stayed longer with them.
