Energetics Manufacturing Technician

About us

Black Sky Industries is an Australian company delivering sovereign capability across the defence and space sectors. We design and manufacture advanced technology here in Queensland, and we're growing our team as we scale.

The role

As Energetics Manufacturing Technician, you'll support the production of solid rocket motors for defence and space customers. Reporting to the Head of Propulsion, you'll work closely with propulsion engineers and our existing energetics technician to deliver consistent, quality work under strict safety controls. The role is based in Logan, with regular work at our site in south-west Queensland and occasional work outside standard hours to support production and testing.

Key responsibilities

•      Support motor production in accordance with approved procedures, safety controls and quality requirements

•      Cast liners and support insulation manufacture

•      Build igniters and prepare motor hardware

•      Assemble tooling, extract mandrels and run cure cycles

•      Keep the production area safe, organised and stocked

•      Have the opportunity to support range activities, including motor static fires

You'll receive training in Black Sky processes. Much of the work follows repeatable procedures, with accurate batch records and consistent standards essential to safety and quality.

What you'll bring

You don't need a rocketry background or formal qualifications. We're looking for relevant hands-on experience in process, production or manufacturing, typically two or more years, along with the following:

•      Confidence working with hazardous and energetic materials under strict safety controls

•      Strong attention to detail, accurate record keeping and the discipline to follow procedures consistently

•      Good mechanical aptitude and confidence with tooling and hands-on assembly

•      The ability to learn quickly and work independently on routine tasks once trained

•      A strong safety mindset, clear communication and a willingness to speak up when something isn't right

•      Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance

•      Ability to meet Queensland requirements for working with explosives, with support provided

•      A current driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly to and work in south-west Queensland

Highly regarded

o   Experience working with energetic materials

o   Experience with resins, two-part polymers, composites or coatings

o   Experience in controlled batch manufacturing, such as pharmaceutical, food or chemical production

o   A forklift licence, dangerous goods handling or first aid certification

o   Involvement in workplace improvement, housekeeping or efficiency initiatives

Why join us

•      Build motors that are fired, flown and delivered, not just designed

•      Work in a small team and see the whole process from mix to static fire

•      Full training in energetics manufacture

•      A real pathway to Senior Technician or Production Lead as we scale

•      Join a growing Australian sovereign capability company

•      A competitive remuneration package

If you're a hands-on manufacturing professional who wants to build something that matters, we'd like to hear from you. Apply with your resume and a short cover note outlining your production or hands-on experience.
