Data Protection Officer

About the role

Archipelago Philippine Ferries Corp is seeking a Data Protection Officer to join our organisation on a full-time basis. Based in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila, this role is fundamental to our commitment to protecting customer and employee data whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant data protection regulations. As Data Protection Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our data protection strategy, safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring our organisation operates with the highest standards of data governance and security. This position holds strategic importance in protecting our operational integrity and maintaining stakeholder trust.

Key responsibilities

• Developing and implementing comprehensive data protection policies, procedures, and frameworks that align with local and international data protection regulations

• Conducting data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) to identify risks associated with new projects, systems, and business initiatives

• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations across all business units

• Managing data subject requests including access, rectification, erasure, and portability requests in accordance with legal requirements

• Providing guidance and training to employees across the organisation on data protection principles, privacy best practices, and regulatory obligations

• Investigating data breaches and security incidents, documenting findings, and implementing corrective actions

• Liaising with relevant authorities, regulators, and third parties regarding data protection matters and regulatory inquiries

• Maintaining records of processing activities and data protection documentation

• Collaborating with IT, Legal, and Human Resources teams to embed data protection into organisational processes

• Staying current with evolving data protection regulations and recommending updates to policies and procedures as needed

What we're looking for

• Degree in IT, Law, Business, or related field

• 3+ years in data privacy, compliance, IT governance, or Data Privacy Certification or equivalent training

• Privacy compliance,data protection , Cyber security fundamentals

• Shipping transportation, logistics, or other data intensive industries (preferred)

• Understanding of privacy risks in AI implementation

• Ability to report privacy risks and compliance matters to management

• Ability to perform privacy oversight without inappropriate conflicts of interest
