About the role
Pope Packaging is an Australian manufacturer of paper, plastic and textile packaging products in an exciting phase of growth. We’ve just installed our third Windmoller & Holscher papersack machine, one of the finest of its kind in the world, and we need four operators to join our night shift team.
You’ll set up, operate and adjust high-speed precision machines. This role is for someone who gets genuinely hands-on: running changeovers, diagnosing issues, adjusting settings, and keeping quality and output on track without waiting to be told. If your background is mostly watching gauges and escalating to a supervisor when something changes, this isn’t the right fit. If you enjoy figuring out why a machine is behaving differently and doing something about it, read on.
Nobody arrives knowing these machines. There are very few papersack lines in Australia, so most of our team learned here, coming in from other industries. You’ll start on one section of the machine with an experienced operator beside you, and take on the rest as your confidence builds.
What matters is the right mechanical mindset. We’ve seen great results with people from plastics and Fast Moving Consumer Goods production (San Remo, Arnott’s, Haigh’s, Clipsal, Trident Plastics) and from trade, setting and technical backgrounds: die setters, mould technicians, toolmakers, CNC machinists, operational technicians, diesel mechanics, fitters and panel beaters. A Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) or similar is well regarded, though it is not essential: hands-on experience counts for just as much.
Night shift: 10:00 pm to 6:06 am. The working week begins at 10:00 pm Monday and finishes at 6:06 am Saturday.
What we’re looking for
Experience setting up and operating machinery in a production or manufacturing environment
Strong mechanical aptitude, comfortable using hand tools and keen to learn how our machines work
Willing to get hands-on with setups, changeovers and basic fault finding, whether or not you’ve done it before
Positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn
Dependable and consistent across a Monday to Friday night shift roster
Full and unrestricted Australian working rights (sponsorship is not available)
Pre-Employment Requirements
Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.
