US Medical Coder Supervisor | AHIMA / AAPC | Metro Manila | Night Shift
The role is open for our Metro Manila IBEX sites - Shaw, Cyberpark (Cubao), Silver City (Pasig), Alabang, Paranaque
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Coding Manager, responsible for supervising coding, data abstraction and associated coding activities. Ensures accurate and timely coding of records according to Official Coding Guidelines, and policies and procedures. Manages workflow related to coding and abstracting, provides direction for coding activities and productivity standards required to reach unbilled targets at all facilities in the region. Performs duties as necessary to support the coding quality improvement process

1. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the coding staff to include staffing and work assignments. Monitors time off and attendance reports. Identifies opportunities for bill hold reductions and reduce turnaround time on outstanding accounts. Identifies opportunities for efficiencies, reviews processes, and implements as approved. Ensures DNFC targets are met by mitigating downtime, decreasing holds, and ensuring timely coding TAT.
2. Manages productivity and quality reports to ensure coding quality standard is met and includes performance improvement plans when applicable. Identifies training needs for staff; designs, develops, schedules, and implements training activities as needs are identified
3. Works with the coding manager to identify and address any missed opportunities regarding revenue, reconciliation of discharge disposition status and record integrity.
4. Implements policies and procedures to assure clear and consistent operation of coding areas while meeting departmental and organizational needs. Participates with the implementation organizational goals, policies, procedures and budget. Maintains all assurance and improvement activities for supervised functions.
5. Participates in all supervisory functions, including interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining for all direct reports. Maintains and updates job descriptions, job standards and procedures for supervised areas. Completes new hire and annual performance assessments timely.
6. Promotes positive co-worker relationships through teamwork and collaboration. Understands and supports the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with coding staff and applicable team members. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests
7. Demonstrates competency in the use of 3M software, including multiple groupers as well as all computer applications in area of responsibility.
8. Remains abreast of all developments in the Medical Record field, especially as they apply to coding, reimbursement, and clinical database developments/changes.
9. Assists in coordination of internal/corporate audits and follow-up on findings
10. Assists in coordination of state reporting submission and file validation. 11. Attends all corporate education sessions
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Active coding certification required (CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or equivalent) from AHIMA or AAPC.
Minimum 5 years of U.S. healthcare medical coding experience, preferably in an acute care, inpatient, outpatient, or multi-specialty hospital setting.
At least 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing medical coding teams, including workload distribution, performance management, and staff development.
Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, MS-DRG, and APR-DRG coding systems and their application in reimbursement and compliance.
Strong understanding of Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations, HIPAA requirements, and healthcare compliance standards.
Proven experience in managing coding productivity, quality assurance programs, audits, and coding accuracy initiatives while meeting organizational KPIs.
Demonstrated ability to analyze productivity reports, identify process improvement opportunities, and implement corrective action plans to achieve coding and DNFC targets.
Hands-on experience using 3M Coding and Reimbursement Systems, EHR platforms, encoder software, and other healthcare information systems.
Strong knowledge of revenue cycle management, including bill hold reduction, coding turnaround time (TAT) management, discharge not final coded (DNFC) monitoring, and reimbursement optimization.
