Phlebotomist
Job description:
Key Responsibilities:
Collect blood specimens through venipuncture, fingersticks, or heelsticks following proper procedures.
Verify patient identity and ensure correct labeling of specimens.
Prepare patients for procedures and explain the blood draw process in a calm and professional manner.
Observe and follow strict infection control and safety protocols.
Transport specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner while maintaining specimen integrity.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the phlebotomy area and equipment.
Log specimen collections accurately in records or laboratory information systems.
Monitor inventory and request necessary phlebotomy supplies.
Assist in specimen collection for special tests (e.g., blood cultures, glucose tolerance tests).
Provide high-quality, compassionate care, especially for pediatric or elderly patients.
Report any adverse reactions or complications during specimen collection to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications:
Graduate of a Medical Technology course or certified Phlebotomy training program
With or without license (depending on facility policy), but RMT is a strong advantage
Experience in a clinical laboratory or hospital setting is preferred
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
