Job Summary: The Training Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of kitchen operations by developing and delivering training programs for kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, and other back-of-house (BOH) team members. With a strong background in restaurant management, the Training Officer ensures that employees meet company standards in food preparation, safety, quality, and overall operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Training and Development:

  • Design, implement, and facilitate kitchen staff training programs covering food preparation, kitchen safety, sanitation, and company SOPs.
  • Conduct hands-on coaching and skills development sessions for new and existing kitchen employees.
  • Develop training materials, manuals, and assessment tools tailored to BOH operations.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure that all kitchen staff adhere to proper food handling and hygiene protocols.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide additional training where necessary.
  • Work closely with restaurant managers and head chefs to identify skills gaps and address training needs.

Onboarding and Orientation:

  • Lead the onboarding process for new kitchen hires, ensuring they understand company values, expectations, and workflow.
  • Provide continuous education on menu updates, new cooking techniques, and industry best practices.

Compliance and Food Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with local health regulations and company standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and training refreshers to maintain a high level of food safety and sanitation.

Performance Monitoring & Feedback:

  • Observe kitchen operations and provide feedback to team members to enhance efficiency.
  • Track the progress of employees and recommend further training or career development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with HR and Operations to create career pathways for BOH employees.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in restaurant management, preferably with a strong BOH background.
  • Proven experience in training and developing kitchen staff.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations, food safety regulations, and cooking techniques.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills.
  • Ability to create training materials and facilitate engaging training sessions.
  • Experience in a fast-paced restaurant or food service environment is a plus.
