THE OPPORTUNITY

Our partner is an Australia-based leading communications and Telecom software company, listed on the Australian Stock Exchange since 2006. enable businesses to deliver UCaaS and collaboration services. Over 6M+ on-net phone numbers, with 500+ clients around the world and 220+ global network connections to build modern communications. They are a fast-growing technology services provider with a market cap of around $1 billion (AUD).

As a System Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining infrastructure systems, with a focus on automating deployments to ensure resilience and consistency across both development and production environments. There is an expectation that this role is part of the teams after hours support roster (level 3), which is rotated weekly for production critical platforms. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development of stable, secure and well architected infrastructure code
  • During development, ordering and updating the backlog to ensure that project and customer requirements are being addressed.
  • Identify and effectively manage any risks or issues
  • To always leave our code & infrastructure in a better state than it was when starting
  • Uplifting our on-prem virtualization stack
  • Maintain high availability for all systems you own
  • Responsible for managing and developing Infrastructure assets and applications to ensure the future interests of the company are secured, including:
    • Managing the expansion of company’s service capability and delivery.
    • Constantly monitor technology, industry and government policy and standards, and inform the organization on their impact.
    • Contributing to the strategic development and management of the company’s network infrastructure.
  • Contribute to identifying and resolving technical disputes/impediments.
  • Responding to escalated / urgent technical issues, as well as outages / alarms / AH.
  • Ensure all work activities are captured & logged promptly
  • Participate in peer reviews of designs and code
  • Responsible for low level design of Platform
  • Ensuring collaboration across your team, other teams, and other Business Units
  • Engaging and effectively communicating with internal stakeholders and customers to gather requirements and provide updates on projects and issues
  • Post development, ensure smooth handover to stakeholders.
  • Produce engineering documentation.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION

Must have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a systems or infrastructure engineering role in a Telco/ISP/Large enterprise
  • Deep technical knowledge of on-premise infrastructure – compute & storage, virtualization
  • Experience in on-premise systems management including installing, configuring and maintaining bare metal and virtualized systems
  • Strong understanding of VMware and cloud management systems (eg. Openstack)
  • Good understanding of KVM.
  • Strong understanding of Linux (Redhat/CentOS) Systems (Windows a desirable bonus)
  • Strong understanding of bash / shell scripting
  • Experience with DNS, NTP
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex technical issues

Nice to have:

  • Experience in CI/CD tools, pipelines and version control such as Gitlab
  • Experience in automating manual processes to drive efficiency with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, etc. (Puppet is a bonus)
  • Exposure in public cloud environment/technologies including AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, ELB/ALB
  • Scripting experience using Python as well as experience in using data serialization languages such as JSON and YAML
  • Understanding of networking architecture and internet protocols
  • Understanding of VoIP technologies & protocols
