Accounting Assistant
An accounting assistant supports accountants and other financial professionals with various tasks. Their responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, processing invoices, and assisting with financial reports. Accounting assistants should have strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and effective time management skills. Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and databases is also essential.
Accounts Payables:
- Process and verify invoices for payment.
- Track expenses and process expense reports.
- Reconcile accounts payable transactions.
- Maintain vendor relationships and resolve payment issues.
- Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments.
General Accounting Tasks:
- Assist with month-end closing activities.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Support the preparation of financial reports.
- Assist with audits and other accounting projects as needed.
- Record financial transactions in the general ledger software, including journal entries, invoices, expenses, and revenue entries.
- Ensure all transactions are accurately coded and classified based on the company's chart of accounts.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations to ensure the general ledger balances match supporting documentation.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or variances in account balances.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing and posting adjusting journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain schedules for accruals, prepayments, and other adjusting entries.
- Collaborate with the finance team to prepare financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
Qualifications:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and databases.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
- Previous experience in an accounting role, particularly with accounts receivables and accounts payables, is highly desirable.
