Senior Accountant
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a dynamic finance team supporting a growing Australian franchise-based gym chain. This senior role offers an exciting opportunity for a highly organized, detail-oriented finance professional to manage financial records, ensure compliance, and drive financial efficiency across multiple entities.
Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for managing financial operations using Xero, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, reconciling accounts, handling payables and receivables, and preparing financial statements. You will also collaborate with key departments to ensure seamless financial processes and contribute to strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Record Management: Oversee and maintain accurate financial records across numerous Xero files for multiple franchise entities. Reconcile accounts and promptly address discrepancies.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage payables and receivables across franchises, ensuring timely payments and issuing invoices. Follow up on overdue accounts and manage debt recovery.
- Financial Reporting:Prepare monthly financial reports, including cash flows, balance sheets, and profit & loss statements for management review. Strong experience in Excel report creation and ability to find anomalies in financial data is a must.
- Expense Management & Compliance: Process team expense claims in line with company policies. Ensure compliance with Australian GST regulations. FBT knowledge is a bonus but not required.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with teams across the company (Compliance, Operations, Procurement) to streamline financial processes, implement best practices, and ensure financial compliance.
- Business Analysis & Forecasting: Provide insights through business analysis and contribute to financial forecasting across multi-currency entities.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with club operators, vendors, and internal stakeholders to optimize financial processes and franchise performance.
- Project Support & Financial Strategy: Collaborate on accounting projects and initiatives related to franchise compliance. Contribute to the development and execution of financial strategies across the organization.
Key Qualifications:
- Xero Proficiency: Proven experience using Xero accounting software to manage multiple entity files, with an understanding of multi-currency transactions and franchise financial systems.
- Accounting & Finance Experience: Minimum of 5 years in bookkeeping or accounting, ideally within a multi-entity setup. Experience with business analysis and financial forecasting is a must.
- Analytical Skills: High attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong ability to find anomalies in financial reports and ensure accuracy in reconciliations.
- GST Knowledge: Solid understanding of Australian GST regulations. Knowledge of FBT is a bonus but not required.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and vendors.
- Time Management & Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong Microsoft Excel skills (advanced functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis). Knowledge of financial management tools and systems is a plus.
