Philippine National Bank

Created during the American colonial period on July 22, 1916, the Philippine National Bank is one of the country’s economic pillars. It introduced banking on wheels in the 1970s when it granted loans to rice farmers right in the middle of a ricefield. It is the country’s first universal bank when the Central Bank granted it the license to function as an expanded commercial bank on July 22, 1980. It is also the first to offer automated tellering services in the country through the self-service tellering machine.

Although PNB was established as a government bank, it became fully privatized in June 1996. Today, it is part of the progressive Lucio Tan Group of Companies. From inaugurating its first domestic branch in Iloilo City, it now has 324 domestic branches. From establishing its first foreign branch in New York City in 1916, PNB now has 103 overseas offices catering to the needs of the global Filipino wherever he may be.

For 2006, PNB won the Outstanding Commercial Bank Reporter Award from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Reader’s Digest Gold Award as one of the most trusted banks in the country and the SSS Balikat Award for Best SSS Paying Commercial Bank and Best Collecting Bank for OFW Remittances.
