The term
Feng Shui first appeared during the Jin Dynasty. Guo Pu, who lived from 276-324 AD, wrote in his book Zhang Shu or the Book of Burial: "the dead should take advantage of the Sheng Qi, the wind will disperse the qi and the water will contain it."
The ancients said that one should try to gather the qi so that it will not disperse. The aim is to keep it flowing but contained. Feng Shui is based on this theory which adopts the principles of balances (Yin and Yang). For centuries, humans have lived within this flow of nature. Hence it is called Feng Shui.
Undeniably, external forces have control over our lives which cannot be fully understood to the layman. The earth's gravity, electromagnetic fields and its surrounding constellations all place some form of emphasis on our actions and behaviours. Feng Shui enables us to understand this aspect and tap or tune ourselves towards the beneficial cycle or position, thereby enabling us to be in tune with our environment rather than against it.
Three cosmic forces govern our lives - Heaven Luck, Man Luck and Earth Luck. Each of these three cosmic factors governs roughly 33% of our destiny. In modern terms, these three forces can be equated with the factors of ‘Place, Decision and Timing’ that determine the outcomes of a person's destiny.
Heaven Luck refers to the "predestined" factor, as in our fate or life path. This governs our potentials and talents as well as our family background. Man Luck refers to our virtues, education and the decisions we make. The things we believe in, what we do with our lives and what actions we take are governed by Man Luck. Earth Luck refers to our living environment. The place in which we live and work play a significant role in shaping our destiny. Feng Shui deals with Earth Luck and the quality of your Earth Luck can be improved by the use of Feng Shui.
Most of us constantly seek to pursue a life worth living and seek a better quality of life. While pursuing these objectives, the process and journey can be tedious and challenging, making us lose focus once in a while.
But we know that with determination and perseverance, we all can achieve our goals. However, we also acknowledge a variance between what we are and what we wish to become.
There are times when our businesses or careers are thriving but our relationships are deteriorating. Or our relationships are bliss but our financial standing is at risk. Or perhaps we have love and we have wealth, but our physical health condition is suffering. It is inevitable that all of us have areas in our lives that require balancing and restoration.
To achieve a more fulfilled life, we need to attune ourselves to nature. The Feng Shui in our home or workplace can help us to achieve our endeavours, direction in life and whichever areas that need balance and attention.
The key to Feng Shui is about balance - coordinating time, placement, space and energy to maximum effect whilst being open to changes.
